Malawian born Artist known as Nisty Chatha.
He started drawing when in primary school amongst friends just for fun. Upon finishing School he noticed an old time friend selling his paintings and making a living out of it. It was then that he decided to seriously consider his talent.
"I wanted to portray the world around me in my own way." he said.
Nisty gets inspired by people, their everyday activities, their culture and surroundings - which he incorporates into his work.
"I long to depict the positive life and spirit of Africa."
Nisty feels there is a certain measure of happiness even when undergoing suffering. A face is a mirror reflecting inner feelings. Even a smile can paint different feelings.
He mostly works in acrylic and oil, with a style ranging from partly smooth strokes to rough ones.
He likes to make marks both smooth and rough just as life is full of smooth parts (ups) and rough parts (downs). And just as life is also unpredictable, he likes his marks spontaneous. The deliberate marks represent imperfections in each individual, reminding us that there is beauty beyond imperfections. The small human figures on the artwork, aiming for the summit (the head), also represent one’s goals to evolve financially, mentally, physically etc. "Even when I have a precise imagery I want to portray, I like the work to dictate how it wants to come across."
